SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Jul 3 (acn) The Caribbean Festival will be inaugurated with a cultural gala on Thursday, 3:00 p.m., at this city's Heredia Theater -a meeting of the arts, thinking and traditions, dedicated on this occasion to the culture of Suriname.
In its 34edition, the first day of this Festival also includes the opening, at 7:00 p.m., of the Center of Suriname, to which the meeting dedicates an exhibition by sculptor Alberto Lescay, the Granma newspaper reported.
Parades, country parties, theoretical sessions, meetings of poets, workshops on popular religions, traveling exhibitions, the International Colloquium "The Caribbean that Unites Us," the Snake Parade (July 5), a Tribute to Slave Rebelliousness (July 7) and the Burning of the Devil (July 9), are among activities scheduled.
Also called Fire Fiesta, the Festival will be attended by national and international delegates, and will take place at various squares, theaters, halls and municipalities of this city until July 9.
A wide delegation of the guest of honor, Suriname, composed of over 200 representatives of the fields of music, dance, literature, gastronomy, theater and the visual arts will show the public the rich cultural diversity of that South American nation.
